Louisville, Ky, July 11, 2024. Family Health Centers, Inc. (FHC) held a grand opening for the organization’s newest location, Iroquois Immediate Care and Pharmacy in the Hazelwood Shopping Center. This new location is the tenth site for Family Health Centers, Louisville’s largest Federally Qualified Health Center. This new location will provide access to affordable, walk-in urgent care for children and adults and expand access to affordable medications to patients through the on-site pharmacy and free pharmacy delivery.
Since November 2023, six national chain pharmacy locations have closed in Louisville, many in lower-income, minority neighborhoods. This follows a growing trend of nationwide pharmacy closures that disproportionately affect low-income neighborhoods. Family Health Centers locations are in underserved areas of Louisville-Jefferson County, and Iroquois Pharmacy will help fill the need in Louisville’s south end, considering recent closures.
“When pharmacies close, it becomes much harder for people to remain compliant with their needed medications,” stated Dr. Bart Irwin, CEO of the Family Health Centers. “It is not enough to provide affordable healthcare services. We must provide access to affordable medications as well.” The FHC-Iroquois Pharmacy provides sliding-fee discounts on medications, free delivery services, and prescription assistance to Family Health Centers’ patients.
Family Health Centers Iroquois Immediate Care and Pharmacy will complement the organization’s three additional locations in the south end. FHC-Iroquois Community Health Center is also located in the Hazelwood Shopping Center, Iroquois High School Clinic, and FHC-Americana. These locations serve over 10,000 unique individuals annually, providing primary care to adults, pediatrics, women’s health, behavioral health, and support services.
