LOUISVILLE-BASED FAMILY HEALTH CENTERS INC.
ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR EASTERN KENTUCKY FLOOD VICTIMS

(Louisville, KY- August 3, 2022) – In response to Eastern Kentucky’s unprecedented flood devastation, Family Health Centers (FHC) has provided $75,000 to the Kentucky Primary Care Association (KPCA). Bart Irwin, CEO of Family Health Centers stated “It is important for us to support our sister community health centers in Eastern Kentucky as they seek to cope with such devastating adversity.”

Over the past week, FHC was in communication with the KPCA, which is actively working with community health centers in Eastern Kentucky, where flood waters have destroyed numerous communities. Beyond the damage and loss to health care facilities, many employees of the health centers have suffered personal loss, including their homes, property, and family members. Still, the community health centers are striving to continue to provide health care as best they can to their patients.

FHC’s financial support will be used to assist community health centers to support their mission, employees, and patients as they seek to cope and recover from the flooding.

  • KPCA: Committed to helping our members in the region, and their patients, recover.
  • Mountain Comprehensive Health Corporation (MCHC) Whitesburg: MCHC is servicing patients out of the old Whitesburg High School located at 58 Walnut Street and limited operations utilizing a mobile clinic at the Isom location. Employees have lost homes and vehicles with needs for water, medical supplies, personal care supplies, nonperishable food, and cleaning supplies.
  • Kentucky Mountain Health Alliance, aka Little Flower Clinic in Hazard: Power and water have been restored, yet they are operating at the Primary location; needs for drinking and distilled water, tetanus and Hep A immunizations, portable oxygen tanks, home oxygen concentrators, insulin, medical supplies, sleeping bags, personal care supplies, nonperishable food, cleaning supplies, shower truck, laundry truck;
  • Primary Care Centers of Eastern Kentucky in Hazard: No water; staff have lost homes and cars; needs for supplies.
  • Juniper Health: Dam broke, damaging many homes; facilities okay but need for water, supplies for homeless and medical needs.

And many more…

Family Health Centers will continue to monitor the situation and provide additional assistance whenever possible, contacting the Louisville community to step in and open their hearts. Donations to support Kentucky’s safety net providers impacted by the floods can be directed to the fund established by KPCA directly at:

Kentucky Rural Health Collaborative
651 Comanche Trail
Frankfort, KY 40601

NOTE: All donations will be used to support the needs of healthcare workers and providers serving communities in need.
